This was my experience living in a mixed community in Israel when I was a kid.

As someone who grew up in a Jewish-Arab mixed city I could see these processes happen over the years. One day I would fist fight with the Arab boy next door and the next day my mom would drink coffee with his father in their home. My father would have his car repaired at an Arab owned garage and on Friday nights I would drive to the only store in town owned by Arabs that is open on Shabbat. It was not paradise for either group but the two communities knew how to work together and what to expect. There is a lot of nuance to the Jewish-Arab relationships in Israel. Someone who has never lived in this society cannot understand.
